Artist Profile: Dino Dott'a

9/13/2022

This next artist profile is another good friend of mine, who's featured on "Trophy (2022)" and "Bad Time!" We met when we worked at a record store in between our dream-chasing. He's always respected and seen me as an artist, and I always want him to know he's seen, too. His music gets me hype whether it's a killer verse about heartbreak or a feel-good self-love vibe. Meet a future superstar I'm honored to know: Dino.

  • Start with the basics so people can get to know you. Who is Dino?
    • Well, Dino - the person behind the artist is a fanatic! When I fall in love with an artist, I want to learn their backstory, and I’ve been that kid my whole life. Buying all the magazines with my favorite artists on them, never missing a single interview or tv performance. Ultimately i’m just a very big appreciator of all of the arts and it reflects in my music.
  • What inspired you to start making music?
    • Well, when I realized I couldn't sing, I felt like I had to figure something out...hahaha, no, I've always been a performer, always wanted to be on a stage dancing with a microphone. I actually started rapping and taking it serious in high school because one day I jokingly said I was going to write a rap, and all my friends started laughing...then Dino Supreemo was born haha!
  • Describe your creative process when you write music.
    • A lot of the time I just listen to music that I already love by different artists, but sometimes I can just be doing anything and a bar or words will just come to me and I'll write them down in my notes app. Then when I'm outsourcing for production, if my opening lines don't just come to me while I'm listening to the beat, I'll go through those old notes and build off of an idea or something I previously had.
  • If you had to choose two songs that you have written/produced and released, that your soul clings to the most, which two, and why? What mind state were you in writing these songs? What are they about?
    • If I just had to go with my first mind (I have a very big catalog haha) probably “Tom Cruise” one of my latest releases and a song I did on one of my soundcloud mixtapes called “I Am Him.” “Tom Cruise” solely because while creating it and writing it, I felt a sense of energy come over me that I haven’t felt while creating a song in well over ten years. A friend and I penned that record together and the energy bleeds through into my voice and it just sounds like a dope ‘talk that shit’ kinda record. “I Am Him” because I had one of my favorite producers flip a Backstreet Boys beat and I just let the track (and the people listening) know exactly who I was and what I felt in that moment. Basically my life as a gay black man in rap.
  • Have you ever performed live? How do you feel about live performances, and do you have any plans for them?
    • I have performed live but not in many years. I’ve been approached to do so but i’ve always felt like when I go on stage it should be something big and something memorable, and it’s hard to find that confidence in myself and just step up there and be the only one on stage, just me and the microphone haha, but I definitely wanna do more performances very soon since I plan on releasing more records.
  • If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
    • Probably Timbaland honestly. Short answer, that’s it haha.
  • What's the best advice you've ever been given about the music industry?
    • DO NOT SELL YOURSELF SHORT. Know your worth and stand firm in it.
  • What do you have planned next that you can tell us about?
    • I’ll be dropping a bunch of singles starting pretty soon going into the new year, I just wanna get my listens back up on streaming and possibly do some visuals to accompany the audio. But ultimately the plan is to keep creating freely and not being so hard on myself, which is something I find myself doing a lot.. So ultimately the plan is to have fun!
  • What is one message you would give to your fans?
    • Whatever it is you wanna do, you’re capable.
Thank you oh so very much to Dino for doing this interview! (and for being there for me, of course <3)
